In former days this building with its tower was called „Grünbaum“ (green tree). Today you can still see a tree painted on the house. In front of the building there is a fountain on which you can see Würzburg’s coat of arms several times.

Sketch the coat of arms.

Ships with goods weighing up to 2000 kg have been loaded there since 1773. Do you know the location’s name? On the façade of the building with large “arms” at that location you can see the river “Main” sculptured as an old man sitting opposite a woman who is meant to be Franconia.

Write down what there is between the feet of the two figures.

Look for the church in the city centre which is dedicated to Mary, the mother of Jesus. Look out for the gravestone of a knight named Konrad von Schaumberg in the church.

What kind of chain is in the knight’s right hand?

A rich citizen of Würzburg founded this old people’s home. You can see lots off little bells on one of the building’s gables.

What is the name of the animal that is also the home’s symbol?

Hint: In the yard of the old people’s home there is a house for this kind of animals!

Walther von der Vogelweide was a famous singer and songwriter in the middle ages. His grave is in the city centre of Würzburg.

Find it and write down the inscription on his gravestone.

Write down their names.

Walk through the gate on the left of the “Residenz”, along the left side of the “Residenz”, pass the “Hofgarten” (garden of the “Residenz”) with its huge wall. After the wall you can enter a park called “Klein Nizza”. In a short distance after the pond on the right there are two ginko-trees of which you got a leaf already.

Find them and bring an additional leaf.

This bridge was built over the river “Main”, about one hundred years ago and it was named after the Bavarian king Ludwig II. The citizens of Würzburg nicknamed it after the four wild animals at its ramps.

Now have a look at the two lions that face the city centre. One of them has got a wound since World War II.

Find it and write down where it is!

Beneath Würzburg’s castle called “Festung” directly at the shore of the river “Main” there is the part of Würzburg’s city called “Burkarder Viertel”. There was a canal for ships in former days because people had no ship lock in the river  at that time. In order to find the remains of it you’ll have to look for the building number 34 in the “Burkarder Straße”. There is a big gate leading to its yard. Cross this yard and walk along the narrow path between the houses in the back of the yard. Now you find yourself in the former ship lock basin. Look around in the filled basin for a while and try to discover the gargoyle.

Sketch the gargoyle.

Beneath the “Deutschhauskirche” (church) at the „Zeller Berg“ (street) has been the house where one of Würzburg’s writers was born. His name is written on a plaque at a grey wall.

Write down his name.

Go to Würzburg’s oldest bridge. You will see sculptures of twelve saints on it. Under the gown of one of them a little animal peeps out.

Write down what kind of animal it is.
